The Challenge

01

Runecast was founded in 2014 by a team of virtualization professionals with a vision: help IT System Admins get and maintain control of their environments. Today, organizations around the world benefit from this patented solution, Runecast Analyzer, and its predictive and actionable intelligence for increasingly complex hybrid cloud IT environments.

One of challenges that Runecast was facing however is the fact that initially they were a very strong team of virtualization professionals and built their first product iteration with a tech stack that allowed them at that time to launch fast.
However with time, they realized that they need more help on the frontend part and leverage a Javascript framework in order to deliver the best customer experience. This is when they reached us in search for Vue.js experts to help them migrate to Vue.js and deliver a new portal with enhanced features and user experience.

The Process

02

As we were faced with the challenge of migrating the old jQuery based platform to Vue.js and improve it in every way we could along the way, we stared our collaboration journey.

The approach we took together with Runecast was to iteratively migrate pages from the application instead of doing it as a full replacement all at once since this could be risky and take a lot of time.

We started by migrating the layout and more simple application pages to Vue.js and as soon as they were tested and fully functional, we started loading them as iframes into the production application, essentially replacing the production application page by page, module by module with the new one.

The big advantage of this approach was that we could deliver incremental replacements and enhancements directly to production without having the risk of working for months on a project.

Along the way, besides replacing existing features, together with the Runecast team we tried improving what we built and add focus on delivering a great customer experience.

For delivering that experience we used technologies such as Vue.js, Vuex, TailwindCSS, TypeScript, AmCharts and AgGrid.

The Outcome

03

Our initial goal was to rewrite the application from JQuery to Vue, but after finishing our work and migrating the app to Vue, the goal was to improve and add new features and keep up to date with the latest tools and technologies

The joint efforts of both BinarCode team and Runecast team’s dedication to providing unrivalled customer experience has earned a five-star Capterra rating from customer reviews. In 2020, Runecast was named a Gartner Cool Vendor and won Computing’s SME awards for Best Place to Work in Digital and Cloud Security Product of the Year.
